Juneau BLM Demolition

In the fall of 2007 Ridge was contracted to demolish four former BLM buildings on Mayflower Island near Juneau, Alaska. The property was being turned over to the United States Coast Guard and therefore all structures including concrete stem walls and footings had to be removed. The site was graded with imported gravel and compacted for future development. RCI removed and disposed of over 750 tons of general debris.

Ketchikan Firing Range Clean-up

Ridge performed site restoration for the USCG at the old firing range in Ketchikan. Tasks included the excavation and removal of lead contaminated soils, import and placement of backfill, installation of sediment controls and the construction of a new parking area. Contaminated soils were loaded into lined roll off containers and shipped to Oregon via barge.

Sentinal Island Boathouse Demolition

The scope of this project involved demolishing a 1940's USCG boathouse and marine dock on a small remote island in South East, Alaska. The crew mobilized by helicopter and the equipment was brought in by barge. A crane mounted on the barge and fitted with a clam style bucket was used to demolish and remove the structures. All debris was then transported back to the City of Juneau for disposal.

Eldred Rock Demolition and Site Work

A crew of five workers mobilized to this small island via helicopter. The main goal for this project was to collect and remove all hazardous materials. Several fuel lines were discovered and properly decommissioned, demolished and removed. Asbestos was also found and all hazardous materials were properly packaged and removed. All debris was sling loaded with helicopters to Haines, AK.

Biorka Island Demolition and Site Work

For this project a barge was required for mobilization of personnel and equipment. Upon arrival to the island Ridge's tasks included demolition of three FAA housing units, destruction of several large concrete generator pads, contaminated soil removal, asbestos abatement, installation of culverts, import and placement of 260 yards of gravel, and roadway grading. All debris was transported to Sitka for disposal. The site had a small dock and a bad beach making logistics a challenge.

Level Island Site Work

Mobilization was completed with the use of a landing craft and barge. Because lodging was not available on the island, the crew was housed in a floating camp transported in from Wrangell. The job tasks included grading a roadway, culvert installation, asbestos abatement, remediation of contaminated soil, remodeling of an office building, and the cutting and removal of several large Sitka Spruce trees.

Yakutat

Several FAA facilities were decommissioned and removed. Tasks included utility disconnect and abandonment, concrete demolition, backfill grading, and well decommissioning.
